CHCCS301A - Scenaro: Margaret - Only Speaks To Anglo - Saxon Parents

Post by lilybeth7 » Thu Sep 19, 2013 1:04 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: ACTIVITY 28 (CHCCS310A)
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Basic Knowledge

Your Question?
Your Service accommodates children from many different cultures. You make an effort to speak with all the parents of your children at the beginning and at the end of each day. After some time, you notice that Margaret, your Room Leader only speaks with parents who are Anglo-Saxon and leaves the multi-cultural parents for you to communicate with. On the rare occasions you see Margaret communicating with parents from a culturally diverse background, she speaks very loud and slow. On these occasions, you also notice the parents look quite uncomfortable, as a matter of fact, some of them, whom you have built a good relationship with, have even confided in you their concerns regarding Margaret’s communication style.

1. How has Margaret’s own cultural assumptions affected her work practices and behaviour?
2. How would you describe Margaret’s behaviour?

Any help would be appreciated, thankyou

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Answer for question 1 so far

It’s possible that Margaret has not had much social interaction with multi-cultural people and it seems that she believes they do not speak or understand English well (therefore speaking loud and slow). It seems that Margaret has come to the conclusion that all/most multicultural people have difficulty understanding English.
