Listed below are the stages of separation anxiety that might typically be expected of children up to 2 years old. For each stage identify what behaviour might be expected from the child and how the carer can support the separation process.
First stage (birth to 5-6 months). During this stage infants are particularly responsive to their mothers. This preference for their mother continues as the attachment process develops. Babies at this stage discriminate less between adults so long as their needs are met in a responsive, caring way.

Second stage (5 months to 11 months). During this stage infants show a definite preference for familiar people –mother, father or educator. Fear of being separated from the primary caregiver is common from about 8 months of age.

Third stage (separation anxiety) (11 months to 18 months). During this stage children show a distinct preference for mother, father or frequent carer.

Fourth stage (stranger anxiety) (18 months to 24 months). During this stage children’s cautious behaviour with strangers becomes fear of strangers.

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I have not answered these questions as yet, was hoping someone may be able to help me out and point me in the right direction on finding more information on the behaviours at each stage. as my book just says what the description says next to each stage .
