case study scenario

Post by marichi » Sat May 24, 2014 10:29 pm

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHC30712 mod 2 assessment
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
You are the Assistant in the Preschool 2 Room: Carlos is usually an enthusiastic 5 year old. Lately you notice that he's either withdrawn or very bossy with the other children. You intervene when you see Carlos grabbling one of the other children and yelling in his face before shoving him to the floor. Carlos tells you not to call his mother or her new boyfriend, Joe, because Joe will get angry and hurt Carlos' mother.
a) what type of abuse is likely to be occurring?
b) in this situation how would you respond?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
The abuse I would say is physical and emotional causing his behaviour issues as he has seen domestic violence at home with his mum and boyfriend. How to respond I would check on the child to see if he is ok and then sit Carlos down to have a chat about why this is happening and why so angry. I will write down incident and his behaviour to report to CD ,DHS, and get police involved due to domestic/ family violence in front of a child. this is all I have. help please ,am I on right track.

Yes, you're on the right tack with your first response. The child is probably suffering from physical and emotional abuse...

For your second question, in Victoria you are a mandatory reported. So, if this child says that he is being abused or you suspect it you need to report it to DHS and then they will investigate the claim. For more info: http://www.dhs.vic.gov.au/for-individua ... hild-abuse

Hope this helps,
