Promoting Shared and Sustained Thinking In The Environment

Dear Lorina,
I am wondering how I can set up the environment to provide opportunities for 2 year old children to have shared, sustained thinking?
I set up sensory and natural area and free drawing area for my classroom but when I ask question they can not answer properly because of their limited vocabulary and hence I found having sustained meaningful conversation quite challenging.

Instead of asking questions, make comments on what they are doing or playing with and see if they respond. Sometimes children can't respond to questions so you may need to try a different approach for e.g. "I like your drawing, I see a circle" Give them time to respond...
