Following an incident at a childcare facility in the Northern Territory, a toddler has passed away.
Paramedics attended to the 2-year-old toddler on Thursday at a creche facility in Humpty Doo, which is located around 40 kilometres north of Darwin.
It's possible that the child experienced a medical episode - at Humpty Doo Child Care Centre, 40km south-east of Darwin in the Northern Territory on Thursday last week. Emergency services performed CPR at the site before moving her to a nearby medical centre where the life-saving work continued, said locals.
St John NT took the youngster in a severe state to the Royal Darwin Hospital, where they passed away on Saturday 2nd September.
The incident and the toddler's death are the subject of an inquiry by the NT Police.
In a statement obtained by the NT News, Humpty Doo Community and Child Care Centre Inc reassured parents other children were not at risk.
“We can assure families there is no identifiable risk to any children in the service,” it said on Thursday.
“We want to reassure families that the safety of their children is always our highest priority.
“Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts are with the family and friends at this time.
Many have kept their children away from the centre while the official investigation continues - and there were only 30 attending on Tuesday at a centre that can care for up to 116 toddlers.
NT WorkSafe has also opened an investigation into the event.
As a childcare centre is a workplace, "NT WorkSafe has commenced an inquiry into the tragic death of a child at a childcare facility," the agency informed 7NEWS.com.au.
We won't make any more comments while our investigation is continuing.
NT Police remain tight-lipped over a seven-day investigation into the death of a two-year-old girl following a daycare incident.
