Monash University's Conceptual PlayLab has produced a new play-based model to teach STEM to young children.
In this professional development program you will be introduced to five pedagogical characteristics of a Conceptual Playworld by:
- showing you video content of what a Conceptual PlayWorld looks like in practice
- providing you with activities and a planning proforma that will support you with planning and implementing your own Conceptual PlayWorld
In this self-paced course you will learn how to plan for, and set up, a Conceptual PlayWorld in your centre. You can do this course at your own pace. In total it should take about 2 hours to complete. By participating, you will receive a free app and learn how to use it to plan and implement a STEM PlayWorld in your centre. On completion you will be well resourced to implement your own Conceptual PlayWorld and to use intentional teaching strategies for supporting children’s learning and development in STEM.
Based on more than 10 years of research by Professor Marilyn Fleer, the Conceptual PlayWorld model helps children form ideas in STEM and increase girls’ participation.
