The national child safety training package is reaching its final stage. Course 5 Advanced Child Safety Training will be available in Geccko from 30 September 2026, completing the national framework designed to strengthen child safety across education and care services.
Who Must Complete Course 5
Under National Law, Course 5 is mandatory for individuals in leadership and governance roles:
- Persons with management or control (PMCs)
- Nominated supervisors
- Persons in day-to-day charge
These roles carry direct responsibility for safeguarding children and ensuring compliance with national standards.
Deadlines for Completion
The timeframe depends on when you began in a relevant role:
- Before 30 September 2026 - Complete Course 5 by 31 March 2027
- After 30 September 2026 - Complete Course 5 within 3 months of your start date
This phased approach ensures services have adequate time to plan and implement training.
Why It Matters
Course 5 builds on earlier modules to:
- Strengthen leadership accountability in child safety.
- Ensure consistent national standards across all services.
- Equip leaders with practical strategies to prevent, identify, and respond to risks.
