Up until the end of 2019, ACECQA has extended a transitional measure to allow primary school teachers to work within an early childhood setting. Primary school teachers working in early childhood will be able to be recognised as the equivalent to an early childhood teacher.
An educator with a primary school teaching qualification who holds all of the following will be recognised as an ECT in an early childhood setting:
- A primary teaching qualification that includes a focus on children 5 to 8 years, or 3 years to 8 years or 5 years to 12 years.
- Current teaching registration in Australia (accreditation in NSW).
- An ACECQA approved Diploma level (or higher) qualification.
In order to meet the above requirements, educators should provide evidence of their primary teaching qualification, teacher registration and diploma level qualification.
For registered primary school teachers you may be able to be taken as an ECT in an early childhood setting upon commencement of your approved Diploma qualification course.
At the end of 2019, when this transitional requirement ceases educators who have obtained the combinations of qualifications listed above prior to the end of 2019 will continue to be recognised as an ECT under this provision.
