Let's Count, a free online professional development program, supports educators to develop the mathematics skills of children in their care by exploring and talking about mathematics in everyday life.
Developed by The Smith Family and aligned with EYLF V2.0, it helps educators and families nurture mathematical thinking in children aged 3–5 through play, conversation, and observation.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what makes Let’s Count so valuable:
-
Everyday Maths, Everyday Moments: From counting fruit at snack time to comparing shoe sizes, the program encourages educators to notice and talk about math in real-life contexts.
-
EYLF Alignment: It supports Outcome 4 (Children are confident and involved learners) and Outcome 5 (Children are effective communicators).
-
Flexible Professional Learning: Includes three self-paced modules, a 4–6 week practical application phase, and a two-hour online forum.
-
Family Partnerships: Strengthens collaboration with families by showing how maths happens at home too—not just in formal settings.
