Obs in Theory Overview:

The Observation Theory template enables educators to link their observation to child development theories.

Theories enable educators to draw upon a range of perspectives to understand a child's learning and development. It provides an opportunity for educators to discuss different theories and beliefs and to investigate why children act in the way that they do and challenge traditional ways of seeing children. 

There are 11 theorists to choose from with an option to add other. This observation also includes linking to the framework by choosing each of the 5 learning outcomes as well as Principles and Practices that the observation relates to. 

The Observation theory template enables educators to determine which developmental theory the child is displaying during their play. This template includes:

  • Name
  • Date
  • Date of follow up
  • 3 Image Boxes
  • Observation Box 
  • Interpretation Box (including follow up)
  • Linking to theorists (11 theorists and "Ob In Theory").
  • Linking to the framework (L/O's, Principles and Practices)
