World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) is on the 7th of February and was established by LitWorld in 2010 to raise awareness of literacy as a fundamental human right and to celebrate the ability of reading aloud to foster community and magnify new stories.
To celebrate the joy and power of reading and to keep expanding the concept and application of global literacy, millions of readers, writers, and listeners from communities all around the world unite on World Read Aloud Day.
This year's story, A Party at the Park, was written by Mabel Mnensa, author of the children's book Kantinga Finds the Perfect Name.
Ways To Celebrate
Celebrate World Read Aloud Day with seven live author events from Scholastic and Storyvoice. On February 7th, Storyvoice, Scholastic’s digital home for live author events, will host seven live author shows featuring today’s top children’s book creators. Each event is free to attend and will feature multiple interaction segments where kids and classrooms can read, draw, and connect with their favourite books and creators. Visit to view the full author lineup and join each live author show.
For the full live show schedule as well as instructions on how to participate. Can’t make a live show? Recordings of each event, along with additional Scholastic read-aloud content, will be made available here: Storyvioice
For even more ways to join in on the full day of excitement, visit LitWorld’s World Read Aloud Day Activity Hub, which includes activities, book lists, and even more live events, all around the world!
