The following lists cultural, special and community events that are taking place in April 2025. This should help you to plan and organise for upcoming events and celebrations for April 2025.
2nd April
- World Autism Day - Each year on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, iconic buildings across Australia and the world turn their lights blue to promote autism awareness. In support of this global initiative, Autism Queensland asks people to Go Blue for April to help raise awareness and funds to help us support Queenslanders of all ages living with ASD and their families.
- International Children’s Book Day—It is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children's books.
- Reconciliation Day—a day that aims to promote peace, understanding, and forgiveness. The day aims to inspire people to resolve conflicts, restore harmony, and improve relations between individuals, groups, and countries. People can use this day to reconcile with loved ones, friends, or colleagues with whom they may have fallen out. It is also a time for forgiveness and to overcome old grievances.
2nd April - 13th April
- Nature Play Week - An annual initiative by the organisations involved in the Kids in Nature Network. Kids do better outside, change agents do better together.
3rd April
- World Party Day - A unique, unofficial holiday dedicated to joy, fun, and unity. Its main idea is that people around the world should forget about their problems for at least one day and come together to celebrate life. This day has no political or religious orientation and inspires people to spontaneous and organized events, where the main goal is to create an atmosphere of joy and positivity.
- World Aquatic Animal Day - It is dedicated to the protection and conservation of animals living in the aquatic environment. The day was established in 2020 by the Aquatic Animal Law Initiative and aims to draw attention to the importance of protecting aquatic fauna, as well as the challenges facing aquatic ecosystems.
4th April
- World Stray Animals Day - The Day for Compassion, Care, and Action for Stray Animals Worldwide. Dogs and cats should have a home. But stray dogs and stray cats don't. They lead poor and miserable lives on the streets, suffering extreme heat, cold, and diseases, even more often being chased around by hostile and violent civilians and authorities. But we, as people who care about animals, can do something.
- International Carrot Day - This unusual holiday is dedicated to one of the most popular and versatile vegetables in the world – carrots. It was created to highlight their nutritional properties, variety of uses and cultural significance.
- World Rat Day - This special day was created to highlight the importance of these animals, which, despite their reputation, play a crucial role in ecosystems, science, and even in human life.
- Vitamin C Day - This day was established to raise awareness of the importance of vitamin C for human health and its role in maintaining the immune system, preventing various diseases and overall well-being.
5th April
- International Pillow Fight Day - Is a fun and unofficial holiday that is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of April. On this day, street pillow fights are held all over the world, bringing people together for a fun and harmless entertainment.
6th April
- Good Deeds Day - Was founded in 2007 by businesswoman and philanthropist Shari Arison, who was inspired by the idea of making good deeds a part of everyday life. Since its inception, the movement has spread worldwide, bringing together millions of volunteers.
7th April
- World Health Day - is a commemoration of the founding of the World Health Organisation. It functions as an opportunity to focus on health issues that affect the international community.
8th April
- Hana Matsuri (Buddhism) - The floral Festival of Japan, Hana-Matsuri, is a religious holiday that symbols Buddha’s birthday.
12th April
- International Day of Human Space Flight - April 1961 was the date of the first human space flight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity. The General Assembly expressed its deep conviction in the common interest of mankind in promoting and expanding the exploration and use of outer space, as the province of all mankind.
14th April
- Baisakhi-Sikh - For the entire Sikh community around the world, this is one day that reminds us of the anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. This special day is considered to be a form of good luck and so generally try to commence new thoughts, lives and commitments on this day.
15th April
- International Day of Culture - Celebrates the diversity of cultures and their role in society. The day serves as a platform to highlight the importance of cultural exchange and dialogue, and to promote the cultural heritage of all humanity.
16 April
- World Voice Day - This day is designed to raise awareness of the importance of the voice as a tool for communication and self-expression, as well as to draw attention to the health of the vocal cords and the protection of the voice.
18th April
- World Heritage Day - Is an opportunity to appreciate heritage monuments and sites for the international community. The day offers an opportunity to raise the public's awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to its vulnerability.
- Good Friday (or Passion Friday) is one of the most significant days in the Christian tradition, celebrated on the Friday before Easter. This day is dedicated to the memory of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. For Christians, this is a time of deep sorrow, prayer, and reflection on the sacrifice that Christ made to atone for the sins of humanity.
19th April
- Holy Saturday, also known as Great and Holy Saturday (also Holy and Great Saturday), the Great Sabbath, Hallelujah Saturday (in Portugal and Brazil), Holy Saturday is an important day of Holy Week, which is observed by Christians on the eve of Easter.
20th April
- Easter is the principal Christian holiday dedicated to the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, which, according to Christian belief, occurred on the third day after his crucifixion.
- Chinese Language Day - This day was established by the United Nations in 2010 as part of an initiative to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity. The choice of date is associated with the memory of the Chinese writer and philosopher Cang Jie, who is considered the creator of the first hieroglyphs.
- Orthodox Easter - Many Orthodox churches base their Easter date on the Julian calendar, which often differs from the Gregorian calendar that is used by many western countries. Therefore the Orthodox Easter period often occurs later than the Easter period that falls around the time of the March equinox.
21st April
- World Creativity & Innovation Day - Each year International Creativity and Innovation Day is a celebration of new ideas, imagination and anything that has made the world a better place.
- Easter Monday, is the first day of Bright Week, the week that begins after the celebration of Easter. This day is considered a continuation of the great holiday of the Resurrection of Christ and symbolizes the joy of life, victory over death and the beginning of a new spiritual era.
22nd April
- Earth Day - An annual event to support environmental protection. It begins in the United States in the year 1970 as a contradiction to the harmful effects of industrial expansion on the environment.
- International Mother Earth Day - is an acknowledgement that the Earth and its ecosystems provide its inhabitants with life and sustenance. It also recognizes a collective responsibility, as called for in the 1992 Rio Declaration, to promote harmony with nature and the Earth to achieve a just balance among the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations of humanity.
23rd April
- World Book and Copyright Day - This day was established by UNESCO in 1995 and is dedicated to the birth or death dates of several famous authors, such as Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare and Virginia Woolf. The holiday is aimed at promoting reading, protecting copyright and respect for literary creativity.
- English Language Day - The day was established to highlight the importance of English as one of the six official languages of the United Nations and to celebrate the cultural and lexical diversity that English brings to international relations.
- Spanish Language Day - This day was established to highlight the importance of the Spanish language in international relations and cultural exchange, as well as to celebrate its importance as one of the six official languages of the United Nations.
24th April
- World Immunization Week Starts - Run by the World Health Organisation, this event promotes the life-saving benefits of vaccinations for people around the world and of all ages.
- Kapyeong Day is a commemorative day observed annually on 24 April in Australia and Canada. It commemorates the Battle of Kapyeong, one of the most significant battles of the Korean War (1950–53), in which a combined UN force, including Australian and Canadian troops, played a key role in holding off the Chinese army.
25th April
- ANZAC Day - Is the solemn day of remembrance of those Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who have fought and died for their country.
- World Penguin Day - A celebration of one of the world's most beloved creatures and a call to action for their conservation.
28th April
- Pay it Forward Day - Based on a concept from Catherine Ryan Hyde's novel, Pay It Forward Day urges people around the world to commit random acts of kindness. It is a day to do good deeds and instruct the recipient of your good deed to 'pay it forward, and return the good deed to another person.
- World Day for Safety and Health at Work - is an annual international campaign to promote safe, healthy and decent work. It is held on 28 April and has been observed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 2003. 28 April has also for long been associated with the world's trade union movement's commemoration of the victims of occupational accidents and diseases.
- International Guide Dog Day - A day to celebrate the important role that guides dogs play in helping the blind and visually impaired enjoy safe and independent travel.
29th April
- International Dance Day - To celebrate this incredible art form, International Dance Day is celebrated on April 29 every year. It was first announced by the International Dance Council in 1982. Jean-Georges Noverre, the creator of modern ballet, was born on this day.
30th April
- International Jazz Day - In November 2011, the UNESCO General Conference proclaimed 30 April as "International Jazz Day". The Day is intended to raise awareness in the international community of the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people. Many governments, civil society organizations, educational institutions, and private citizens currently engaged in the promotion of jazz music will embrace the opportunity to foster greater appreciation not only for the music but also for the contribution it can make to building more inclusive societies.
