Post by Jessibus » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:23 am

Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: chccs400c work within a relevant legal and ethical framework
Your Assignment Type: Standard Question
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
You are an unqualified children’s service educator. In your centre you have a five year old girl Amy at your children’s service workplace. Amy’s mum is a good friend of your next door neighbour and visits often taking any with her. Yesterday you noticed Amy playing next door and you noticed that she was rummaging around in the neighbours bin and pulling out food to eat.

At your centre Amy is always the first to be dropped off and the last to be picked up. You have notice that Amy’s general appearance is becoming very unkempt and she has an unwashed smell about her on most days. Due to this she has trouble making friends and no-one wants to play with her. She appears to be withdrawn from activities more and more. As it’s a hot day today the children have been playing outside in the water trough. Amy gets exceptionally wet and when you all go inside you decide to help her into some dry cloths. While doing this you notice that she has several bruises across her back. Later when Amy’s mum arrives to pick her up she is very abrupt with Amy and yells at her to hurry up.

How could you continue to support Amy and her family in your service after you have made the report?
We can provide constant and stable environment sensitivity to a child’s needs for consistency is vital. Warm and sympathetic teachers can allow children to see adults in a positive, supportive role. Valuable support, education and continuing duty of care and maintaining confidentiality. Some families involved in child abuse are often lonely and isolated and experiencing periods of great and personal or family stress. We can give then information on programs and services that can directly benefit them – Education programs that show the unique skills required of parents and help them understand that these skills are learned not just instinct. Early childhood education programs that show the process of child development outline typical capabilities relation to the development stage and suggest ways to enhance the child’s development. Families SA, Cams, AC Care Angilcare and counselling programs that range from job skill training to substance abuse counselling

What is your responsibility as a worker, to Amy and her family regarding confidentially and duty of care?
As part of our duty of care, we have legal responsibility, all client information is confidential. Where information may be required by some other organisations, consent is required. We need to maintain confidentially and respect the right s of Amy and her family.

What is the procedure for responding abuse in your state or territory?
CARL – Child abuse report line. 131478. Notifying the Director.
They may need – Childs names, age and address, description of injury abuse (current and previous) what’s the child’s situation, where are the child’s parents or caregivers and alleged abuser, when and how did you find out about the abuse, if the child is aboriginal, do you know the clan group of the child. Should you refuse to provide the family/child identifying details then you have not fulfilled your mandate, as a mandate reporter you must provide those details.

They will need my full name, job title, agency name of address, contact number, your relationship to the child, what type of contact you have with the family, how frequently and when was the last time you saw the child, are you working with the child or the family, if so what capacity. They will see that the identity of the notifier is protected. Also what made me call, are the parents /caregivers aware a report is being made, is the child aware the report has been made, if so what was their response.
