CHCCN30A Providecare for chldren

Post by red » Tue Sep 27, 2011 1:20 pm

Hi I just have these last questions to go on this assignment would like any feed back or help as my brain is starting to give up on me

I need to do step by step guides for the following

D) Preparng an 8 month old for sleep

Things I have thought of are
change their nappies
feed food ( if they have soilds) or give bottle
then put in cot
Dim lights
have soft calming music playing
Was wondering if I should include set of the nursery as well?

e) Peparng a 21/2 year old for sleep/rest

- have lunch
- change nappy or get them to go to toilet( depending on child's needs)
- set up beds get the child to help
- give child something to do on their bed ( book / colour pencils and book) while you set up the other children's beds
- take the item of the child and tell them to lay down
- turn lights off or dim

f) preparing a 5 year old for sleep/rest

- have lunch
- get them to go to toilet
-get child to get ther sheets out of their bags and help you make their beds
- give child an activity on thier bed to do
- dim lights

h) teaching a 4 year old how to wash their hands

- turn the water on
- get them to wet their hands
- put soap on their hands
- get them to rub their palms together
- rub between fingers on each hand
- clean the back of their hands
- clean the base of their thumbs and finger nails
_ clean their wrists
- while doing all this get them to sing a song (abcs or happy birthday, as this will take about 20 seconds, which is required to wash hands)
-get them to dry hands on paper towel
-use same paper towel to turn tap off
-put paper towel in bin

Should I say show them how to do it first or help them do it or state both?
Should I have them look at a how to wash your hand poster first?

any input would be great and tell me if I'm on the right track as I have only just started prac work and had not much contact with different age groups at the moment. I have search the web and my book but have not come up with much as it is mainly preparing a child to sleep at night, which only some things helping me

so any input would be helpful

WIth washing hands and things like how to pick up a chair, open a door etc it is always best to demonstrate 1st
So in small groups go to the bathroom and show them how you wash your hands properly then ask them to do it and help them

With the beds usually try and have the beds set up before sleep time, its hard to get a 2.5yr old to do the bed up so though u can try its usually a matter of having it all done and then get them in bed, pat , sleep
Some children can kind of help put sheets on but honestly its not realistic and most places i have worked (for this age group) have the beds fully made up for the children

Thanks fete76 for you input, I wasnt to sure about the 2.5 making their beds, but I remember one day at daycare where my children go, saying that my son was really good at helping make his bed but it does make more sense to have them made up before hand
