Current Minimum Diploma Wage

Post by Macoola » Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:18 pm

Hi,

I am about to start a new position and it has been a bit of rocky start due to Covid-19. The position was originally a group leader role but they have asked if, due to numbers, I would be a Diploma assistant for a couple of months first.

I am weighing up my options. The thing is they are offering me $25 an hour. What is the minimum award wage for a Diploma educator?

I have looked up the award wage but I'm a bit confused by the levels. I have had my Diploma for 5 years now.

Thanks,

Macoola

I have been doing more research, I take it all Diploma's are minimum level 3.4 in the award wage. Which is $26.01 under the new award brought out this month? Is this correct?

Hi Macoola,

I apologise for my delay... I haven't been well for the past few days.

Yes as a Diploma Qualified Assistant Educator, you are Level 3.4 and the minimum pay rate is $26.01 per hour.

Please make sure that you are paid at the correct pay rate.

I so sorry Lorina I hope you're feeling better soon.

I ended up rejecting the job offer all together. They had changed the terms so many times, and have shown they are willing to underpay their workers. I think I can find something better.

Thanks for your help

I'm so glad you declined the offer... if they can't even get the pays right god who knows what else is going on in that centre... you definitely do deserve better!!!

I'm alright thanks... just back pain - stress and physical strain...

Thanks Lorina, I feel happy with my decision already as I have worked for people who cut corners in the past and it is just too stressful.

Thanks for taking the time to respond 😊

Hi

I am an OSCH coordinator from last 3 years and have done diploma in early childhood. Not sure in which level it is covered.

I have assessed my overseas qualification for teacher registration board of south australia and it is assessed as Australian 3 years bachelor degree, one year post graduate teacher education qualification and Australian 2 year Master degree

Will my employer will count these qualifications and do they have any impact on pay rate

Thanks

If you are a co-ordinator and your qualifications have been assessed then you may be able to count these towards your pay rate.

I would recommend you discuss this with your employer.

In regards to OOSH Coordinator:

A Coordinator appointed to coordinate the activities of a service licensed to accommodate up to 59 children will be paid at the salary range Level 6.1 to 6.3. A Co-coordinator appointed to coordinate the activities of a service licensed to accommodate 60 or more children will be paid at the salary range Level 6.4 to 6.6.

The wage table to refer to can be found here:

Childcare Wages

Hope this helps!
