Behaviour and safety guidlines indoor/outdoor

Post by Daye » Sun Aug 30, 2015 10:29 am

Pls help I'm stuck with this questions
Q: Identify five(5) behaviour and safety guidElines in relation to the use of indoor/outdoor play space. How could you discuss these to children
Im not really sure about my answer...pls tell me if im on the right track
A: make hazardous equipment or chemicals inaccesible to children like for example ponds-tell children not to touch ponds with hands to avoid drowning
*nappy buckets should be emptied so not to touch by children and get contaminated
B. Supervision and visibility of children
-always make it a point that children are within you reach, within the area that you can be heard.
- supervised children in the outdoor playing equipment most especially in slides and swing, always remind children to use the equipment properly, when using swing just sit and do not stand, when using slides children should be reminded to take turns.
C.Maintain supervision to children especially the small ones with toys who has chocking hazards like for example beads, loose parts of the toys, remind children not to put them into their mouth to avoid choking.
*Doors used finger jam protectors, tell children not to play with doors and never be near door when playing.
* Childrens artwork should not be put to the ceiling especially if those were heavy, avoid putting art decorated papers near the heater that can cause fire.
*Avoid the use of pins or staples.
D.Safe play rules and enough nunbers of equipment to children
-remind children to always play safe no pushing as much as possible
-remind them to use the equipment properly
-there should be enough playing area to avoid overcrowding.
E.Access of children and adult to areas
*ensure that the entrance and exit on the area is safe for children, for example in the hallways remind children to just walk instead of running.
* enough barriers for example in kitchen, bathroom or stairways.

Pls check if what im doing is right

The question is referring to you talking to children about behaviour and safety guidelines that you will discuss with the children. For example:

- walking inside
- we wear our hats while playing outside
- we pack away our toys once we finished playing

The following may help as well:

Safe Play
Behaviour Guidance

Keep in mind that you will need to discuss these with the children so keep it simple...

So my answer will be like this
Talk to the child the importance of sharing and taking turns
Example: we ask a child who has been playing with the truck for so long to let other play with it.
Negotiating with peers- done with the use of words over action
Let the children know that there is always limit for everything
Identifying the problem and attempting to solve it
- the staff let the child know that there is a problem and talk to the possible solution of the problem
Active listening to staff- staff encourage children to Stop, look and listen.this is done especially in group activities to see who is listening
Displaying empathy for others- assist the child by talking through the consequences of their action.

Or this is the right answer?
children we take turns when using the swing
Pushing should not be done inside or outside
While playing in the swing look for small children that may be hit
No running when inside everybody should just walk
Never take away someones toy, ask first for permission to use it
We wear our hats while playing outside
We pack away our toys after playing with it.
We should not left toys that may tripple other kids.

I think this is more appropriate as it is easier for children to understand these guidelines. FYI - "While playing in the swing look for small children that may be hit" - swings are not allowed in childcare (I think) so you may just want to change this to "when sliding down the slide"...

Hope this helps,
