Supporting An Indigenous Child Within The Service

Post by Lorina » Wed Oct 25, 2023 2:31 pm

ANONYMOUS POST

An indigenous child has recently started at my centre in my room, and our reconciliation staff member is really pushing me to have a chat with mum regarding how we can support them culturally, as a person of indigenous descent myself, I feel it’s too soon, as he has only been enrolled for 2 weeks, and as I would like to build a relationship with the child and family first, how should I go about this?

Thank you so much!

I don’t think it matters how long the child has being at the service , I was new to where I’m at and asked parents first week how I can be support their child and be inclusive etc. faster I know the better.
