Finger Puppet Songs Using Kangaroo, Family and Princess

Post by zizity » Sun Apr 07, 2013 12:24 am

Hi Everyone,
I am currently working in Toddler room and I realized that children love finger puppet songs very much. I had already some finger puppets and have been collecting some more. I have three of these finger puppets that I bought from garage sale and opshops but I do not know how to use these ones.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

find rhymes or songs that can go with the puppets you have bought
just so a search there are so many songs etc I am sure you will find something
you can also just make up a story using eg all the characters in the car

Great puppets! They always work well with children!!

For the kangaroo you could use this:

Ten baby kangaroos standing in a row
When they see their mama, they bow just so (bow)
They kick to the left (hop to the left)
They kick to the right (hop to the right)
Then they close their eyes & sleep all night. (Put head on hands and pretend to sleep)

Continue with Nine Baby Kangaroos, Eight Baby Kangaroos, etc

Since you only have one kangaroo puppet, you could use that as the mamma kangaroo... Line 10 children up as "kangaroos" and then using the puppet kangaroo as the "mama" to follow the actions of the song...

For the family puppets you could use this:
This is my mother, kind and dear.
This is the father sitting near.
This is the brother strong and tall.
This is the sister, who plays with her ball.
This is the cat. littlest of all.
See my whole family large and small

Hope this gives you an idea,

:geek:,

The last puppet you have, the princess looking one you can use the following song. I sing this song with felt puppets and a felt board. If you don't have all the materials, just find some pictures and add it like a background. For e.g. for the second paragraph you can get a picture of a high tower, third paragraph a wicked fairy, fourth paragraph a bed, fifth paragraph a forest etc.

By the way, is the last puppet a princess or a monster? Cant work it out? :giggle:
There Was a Princess Long Ago.

There was a princess
Long ago, long ago, long ago;
There was a princess long ago,
Long, long ago.

And she lived in a big high tower,
A big high tower, a big high tower;
And she lived in a big high tower,
Long, long ago.

A wicked fairy cast a spell,
Cast a spell, cast a spell;
A wicked fairy cast a spell,
Long, long ago.

The princess slept for a hundred years,
A hundred years, a hundred years;
The princess slept for a hundred years,
Long, long ago.

A great big forest grew around,
Grew around, grew around;
A great big forest grew around,
Long, long ago.

A handsome prince came riding by,
Riding by, riding by;
A handsome prince came riding by,
Long, long ago.

He chopped the trees down with his sword,
With his sword, with his sword;
He chopped the trees down with his sword,
Long, long ago.

He woke the princess with a kiss,
With a kiss, with a kiss;
He woke the princess with a kiss,
Long, long ago.

So everybody's happy now,
Happy now, happy now;
So everybody's happy now,
Happy now.

I love acting this song out with the children, it is on the "Best Of Playschool" CD, it has a yellow cover, song number 19, The Sleeping Princess.
