Hi everyone! This is an intersting topic. How much a childcare worker received this days? This will be a lot of help for those who would like to venture in this new career.

That seems reasonable. You are probably getting paid at a Level 5.2 rate as you're a 2IC...

Hello Everyone, It depends what services are you going to offer and the area where you live. They are different states in USA. You may charge them per hour for your services unless you've agreed to something else.

I do relief work for the council and I get $30 an hour which I'm very happy with as I'm a cert 3 with zero experience.

23.16 for diploma level. It's up from 22.46 last financial year, but i'm only getting 22.5 hours, so it's still next to nothing.

If you are getting $30 as an inexperienced cert 3 qualified educator what are diploma qualified with experience getting? With the rate I would rather do relief than working full time and probably earn more for doing less!! Seems like a council centre always pays above above award wage. Why is it hard for others centres to follow as well...Obviously it can be done!

I had a look, and diploma relief workers get $37 an hour with my council :)
I don't think I could go back to working for $20 an hour now! I've been spoiled haha

That is a casual rate, so no sick pay, no annual leave and most importantly no guarantee of work from week to week. So it is about balancing your needs. If you can find blocks of full-time casual work, for example maternity leave, you can really earn a lot. I did casual for a few months last year after travelling, as a qualified ECT I was on $38/hr. However some weeks I would get a full weeks work and others only 2 shifts.

Oh and there are many private LDC centres out there paying above award. In big cities like Sydney and Melbourne you can find many as there is so much demand for qualified staff. When I moved to Sydney I had 3 interviews and received offers from them all (all offering above award pay).

Hey all!

I've been working in day care since 2010, and I have done a few years permanent and a year fully casual. Earlier this year, I briefly went full time in a day care centre before being transferred to Out Of School Hours care.

I've battled to get signed up for my diploma, and at the moment I am waiting for my books to arrive.. I'm currently on 18.06 an hour.

I'm still a student studying towards my final year (4th year) at university to become and ECT in Sydney. I have started working casually recently at a privately owned LDC and get paid as a cert3. I am paid $25/hour, as the centre I work in pays above award wage which I think is pretty good :)

Yes that's good!

Casual rates are always higher than full time/part time work...

Hi All,
I'm in FDC and we set our own rates. I charge $6.50 an hour per child {scheme adds .75c per hour per child] and I make sure I have 4 children booked in every day.
It is good when we have a few extra school children because then we are paid for 7 or 6 children at $6.50 hr.
Once all your set up is paid for, it is consumables etc that comes out of our pay but that's all.
We can be as busy as we like or choose to only work a few days a week, or only overnight care, or weekends or school age care only.

Is it true in an After Hours School Care situation that the extra money paid by the parent for the 'late pickup fee' gets split between the educators working at the time?
This is something i heard in the classroom and would like to confirm it.

Yes, this also includes in a long day care centre as well. When a parent pays a "late fee" the money is divided up between the staff that had to stay back with the child. It doesn't happen very often because the late fees are pretty hefty! Typically it's $1 a minute for the first 10 minutes then it goes up to $2 a minute thereafter. However, if a parent is only 5 minutes late then you can let it pass...you have to be reasonable....
