Hi all,
I would like some help with understanding the minimum wage working in a childcare in Victoria.
I have completed my Certificate 3 near the end of 2013. But have never been employed and started my diploma of Early Childcare mid 2014. If I were to find work soon, with my certificate 3 qualification as I have not yet finished my diploma, what would the minimum wage be per hour part time?
Thank you, much appreciated.

From what I understand as a Cert 3 qualified educator your are classified at Level 3.1. Having a look at the Children's Services Modern Award, you're minimum hourly rate is $19.64/. I'm not sure if this changes per state but looking at the award, overall that's the minimum wage for your classification.
Here is some more info:

A cert 3 casual educator gets a minimum of $24.55/per hour according the Children's Services Award. You would most probably get paid weekly but you will need to check with the centre... I've worked at centres where the pay is fortnightly... All staff (even casuals) are paid together...

Hi again!
I have been getting paid $19.64 at my current work. Should I be recieving $20.13 an hour now that the hourly pay rate has been changed as of July 2015?
Thanks

Yes, you're right! If you were on the minimum wage before the increase on 01 July, you should now be receiving $20.13/per hour as of the 01 July.

Congratulations!
If you're working as an assistant educator you will be on Level 3.4 with a minimum of $23.21 per hour full time.
If you're working as a lead educator you will ge on Level 4.1 with a minimum of $24.28 per hour full time.
Hope this helps!

I have worked in a few centres and also in a kindergarten. I was never paid the amounts you are quoting. The only time I got above $22 per hour was when I started nannying.

There have been changes to the Children's Services Award, I think the previous award stated the maximum that educator could be paid but this since has been changes with the Children's Services Award which states the minimum an educator should be paid instead...
If you come back to the childcare industry I'm sure you will be earning more than previously...
