Nearly 60 early childhood services across NSW reported gastro outbreaks since October 2020, with over 480 children and 120 educators infected with gastro.

NSW Health's has issued a plea for parents to keep sick children home for at least 48 hours after symptoms subside.

Richard Broome, from NSW Health, said the highly infectious bug, which can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache and muscle aches, spreads rapidly in early childhood services.

It's important to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and running water for at least 10 seconds before handling and eating food, and always wash your hands after using the toilet, changing nappies or assisting someone who has diarrhoea or vomiting.'
