Measles Alert For Brisbane

The Metro South Health Public Health Unit has confirmed a case of measles, in a child in the Brisbane area. The person was in a number of locations whilst unknowingly infectious. Residents in the Brisbane and Logan areas in particular need to be alert for symptoms.

Locations visited while infectious are as follows:

• Thai Airways International flight TG 316 Delhi to Bangkok (departure 11:30 pm, 21 May 2018, arrival 5:25 am, 22 May 2018)
• Thai Airways International flight TG 477 Bangkok to Brisbane (departure 9:00 am, 22 May 2018, arrival 7:50 pm, 22 May 2018)
• Brisbane International Airport in the arrivals or baggage claim areas on Tuesday 22 May 2018 from 7:50 pm to 9:45 pm
• Target at the Springwood Shopping Mall on Friday 25 May between 2 pm and 5 pm
• Logan Emergency Department waiting room from 10 pm, Thursday 24 May to 1:45 am, Friday 25 May
• Logan Emergency Department ambulance bays Saturday 26 May 2018 from 6-7 pm

The initial symptoms of measles include fever, lethargy, runny nose, moist cough and sore and red eyes. This is followed a few days later by a blotchy, red rash. The rash often starts on the face then becomes widespread over the body.

If you have any of the measles symptoms contact your GP and remember it is VERY important to call the medical practice first if you think you might have measles, so that staff can take precautions to avoid you spreading it to others.
