AFP Release Images Of Children's Clothing to Identify Victims in Alleged Sydney Childcare Abuse Investigation Image by Samer Daboul

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have released images of children’s clothing as part of their investigation into alleged childcare abuse in Sydney. The move is aimed at helping identify victims linked to former childcare worker Hamish Tait, who faces 329 charges relating to offences committed over a 16‑year period.

Clothing Images Released

AFP have released images of children’s clothing in an urgent bid to identify victims. Authorities are appealing to parents, carers, and the public to recognise distinctive items, as investigators continue painstaking victim identification work.

Investigators hope distinctive clothing will trigger recognition among families:

  • Dinosaur-pattern puffer vest – photo likely taken June 26, 2023, at Rouse Hill childcare centre.

  • Blue-pattern shorts & animal t-shirt – estimated between Feb 2020–Mar 2024 at Rouse Hill.

  • Two-tone shirt – likely taken Jan 9, 2018, at Putney childcare

The images were found on electronic devices seized as part of the investigation under Operation Moonbi.

AFP Detective Acting Inspector Emmanuel Tsardoulias said investigators are relying on parents, carers, and members of the public to recognise the clothing items, with 16 alleged victims still yet to be identified.

He described the identification process as “painstaking and highly detailed,” noting the complexity of the work involved.

Tsardoulias confirmed that officers have already received more than 300 calls since the operation began and indicated that additional images may be released as the investigation progresses. He asks anyone who recognises the images released by the AFP to contact the local contact point on 02 9765 1000.
