Can anyone help me with ideas to teach 3 & 4 year old scissor skills??? The printables on this site are really great, and we have tried magazine pictures, but I think I need some help with how to get them started - maybe something other than paper to start with? Or is it just a matter of lots of practice? Any help would be much appreciated thanks! :inlove:

I put out play dough for the development of the Fine Motor Skills.
Let them have a go at cutting it.

Thanks Lindy, had forgotten about the playdoh idea!! We did it today, lots of fun learning together cutting up snakes, rolling the dough out and cutting out shapes. Also remembered about cutting up straws for threading, will try that one again too...............touch of ........ahhhhh.......what do you call it??? I forget!!

was just about to suggest the same thing
i start them off snipping at playdoh and then snipping edges of paper before moving onto cutting the whole length of paper

Before the kids learn to cut they need to develop their fine motor skills... You can encourage your kids to use clay, games that involve turning knobs & handles, wind up toys, pegboards, using twezzers to pick up objects and puzzles....
