Closing Staff

Hello all.

Can someone point me to the right direction pls? I tried searching for a specific regulation/policy regarding this but couldn’t find any. And I need to check my centre’s policy as well.

For closing, 2 staff are always rostered.

Question: Is one staff legally allowed to leave the centre premises to help a parent take the children (age 3 years old) to their car? I understand parents need assistance, however, it takes a while for the staff to come back as the children run around the centre. One time it took 10 minutes for the staff to come back. Most of the time, the parent comes 5-2 minutes before we close.

Anything could happen within a few minutes one staff being left alone in the room with some children or the other staff being outside the childcare helping a parent.

Also, I find it unfair as we also have parents who pick up 2 children and I am sure they would love someone to assist them as well.

Thank you.

Hi!

It depends how many children are you left with, while the staff is helping the parent?

When this occurs, how many children does the one staff member have to watch by themselves?

You can let them watch their favorite educational children's show. This will help them stay calm and avoid chaos.

The teachers in my children's class do the same. I don't object to this because watching their favorite show will help the children sit still and the teachers will have less trouble.
