Advice needed: Laptop damaged at work - who claims?

Can anyone give me some advice?

I am a group leader in a 15 month to 2 year old room.
While I was changing a nappy, one of my little treasures decided it would be a good idea to empty their drink bottle onto my desk and laptop. Result- no more working laptop.
Should the Centre claim this on insurence or do I just have to fork out for another one?

Any advice is welcome
Thanks

This is a tough one...

Centre may point out:

1) Why was your laptop on the desk in the first place?
2) Your laptop was accessible to children which in turn caused the incident...
3) If you were moving away from the desk then you should of moved your laptop...

However, you could point out:

1) Who was supervising? Where was the supervision during this time?
2) If we had access to a computer, you wouldn't have to use yours...

It really depends on your director... they may claim it on the centre insurance but there is going to have to be a very good explanation for it.

I'd be interested to know how it goes,

Your personal laptop?
If they knew you had to use it for work I would say they should given that as LA mentioned they agree on your points above.
However if you just took your laptop in to do something and it got damaged then its your fault & not on them at all.

Thanks for your thoughts L.A.
Yes it is my personal laptop. We do have access to a computer in the front office the problem is there is only one. So getting time on it is tricky, even during allocated programming time there is more than one G.L programming at the same time. So most G.L's bring their own laptops. I am the only staff member in the room two days a week as there are only four children then. This makes nappy changing difficult as I can not see most of the room from the changing area. Being unable to leave the room it made sense to just bring my own laptop.
I did speak to the director and she told me to claim it on my house contents insurance. :-(
