Pain During Labour

While I was reading a book on pain during labour it said "regarding the pain, it is important to think positively about the labour as this is a natural experience. Pain and labour have been referred to for so long that contractions are considered painful. If you expect pain it can damage the normal activity of the brain and make you feel greater pain causing your whole body to tense up with fear during delivery".

While discussing this with friends and family who have experienced labour to sum up what they said it depends on your pain threshold, any drugs that you may be using (epidural, gas etc) or what type of birth you will be having such as natural, caesarian and whether you are being induced. No matter what during your labour the nurses will guide you on your breathing and offer you any pain relief that you may want to take if you cannot bear it. It is quite a painful experience to go through labour and it's primarily the contractions that hurt during dilation. Remember your body is made to give birth and you will be able to handle the pain whether you scream, cry or throw up, it will all be over before you know it!

Thought I'll share it here.

You do not want to know - it is incomprehensible.
I once had my back tattooed for 6 hours - it was a very painful experience. In my naivety I went around saying that it would prepare me for childbirth. No, it didn't, both in pain terms, but also how you feel when things go wrong.
But also - the real pain is not when you are actually getting the baby out - it is when you are dilating
but it is usually better the second time .
Good luck!
