Hi, so I have just been made room leader of the 0-2years room in my service previously working in toddlers and preschool room.

I need help on ways to extend their interests. At the moment they are interested on animals and we have created snake sock puppets, caterpillars and other animals that relate to them.

Any ideas on ways that this can be extended would be helpful, as I am stuck for other ideas that can be done.

- Read animal stories (dear zoo, brown bear brown bear, wombat stew) etc.

- Sing animal action songs ( old McDonald had a farm, 5 little ducks, 5 cheeky monkeys, going to the zoo) add a visual for songs such as puppets or felts

- Add animal figurines to blocks

- Set up a vet in homecorner for exploration. Add doctors kit, use shoe boxes as cages, put stuffed animals in side.

- Play different animal sounds from a cd (or app on iPad there is many) for children to recognize and identify

- Add animal puzzles for puzzle play for the older babies or create your own by

- Create a sorting game for farm and wild animals that you can play as a group

- Look at animal images and talk about the sound it makes and where it lives

Hope this gives you some ideas to go on...
