The Correct Nappy Change Routine When Changing Nappies

Hello everyone,

I have just started a permanent position while still studying and have noticed that everyone at the centre seems to use their own version of the correct nappy changing routine so i wanted to be sure Im doing it right. The disposable piece of pappy that is placed on the change mat before the child is put on it should be removed at what point? Some do it when they remove the dirty nappy and others do it when they have completely finished....

Thanks
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

The disposable piece of paper should be removed along with the dirty nappy, along with the wipes and gloves before putting on the child's clean clothes... When taking the child's nappy off while cleaning their bottom the disposable paper is there in case any excess poop or wee doesn't get on the change mat just on the paper towel which makes it more hygienic as you throw this in the bin as well, along with the nappy when the child's clean...
