A practical workshop is usually when part way through a presentation & they will pause the powerpoint and get the people in the audience to join in with an activity. Something related to the powerpoint. For instance if they are showing a powerpoint on working on literacy they might take a break and ask you to get in a group of say 4 people and complete a literacy activity relating to their powerpoint. For instance - act out a well known fairy tale and the other groups guess which one it is.
Hope this makes sense!

Maybe you could get groups to brainstorm what effects poverty could have on a child's education and then share them as whole group. Or brainstorm how ECE could help parents of children in poverty (Ie invite health professionals in /canteen people to talk about cheap healthy lunches)
I think maybe working out ways to involve the parents could be a good one as parents in poverty may not realise the importance of ECE. Groups could work out ways to involve families (sausage sizzles/information days/etc.
Another one would be to list the resources/ways they can think of that a child in poverty could benefit from by attending ECE. (books/educational toys/stability etc)
Hope this helps
