Hi there! I am new to this site, and im after some help! I have the question: Reflect onthe NQS document for quality area six : Collaborative partnerships with families and communities and im asked to state the weaknesses and strengths of the requirements. So far, i think a lot of the requirements are strengths as they address things like keeping in touch and including families and communities. I cant think of weaknesses! anyone care to weigh in?

Hi,
Welcome to Aussie Childcare Network!
Yes, you're right one of the strengths of this quality area is that enables educators to form ongoing relationships with families.
As a weakness in my opinion is that this quality area relies on heavily on family input. To get families involved in their child's learning and development. Family input is actually quite hard to get from those families within a centre. They always seem to rush in the door to drop their child off or rush out the door when picking their child up in the afternoons. It hardly makes anytime to be able to communicate with the family and get their perspective on their own child's interest and strengths. Also, when giving input forms to families it can be hard to collect the information as some families forget to bring it in or don't do it as they are too busy.
Although this can be a weakness it's up to the educators to turn it into a strength. If a method of communication is not working then it has to be changes in order to benefit the families and educators at the centre.
I am also giving you the Guide To The NQS. Have a look through Quality Area 6 and this will provide you with more specific information and examples on how centres can implement this specific area. It should help you as well:

Hope this gives you an idea to start with,
