Hey,

I just have some questions about this scenario with sorrel it is out of the unit - Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children.
Just want to know if I am on the right track. Have been stuck on this question for the last three weeks and need to get it done :(

Scenario B
Sorrel
Sorrel is 3 years old and has Spina Bifida and is now learning to walk with the aid of braces on her legs. She can scoot around the floor on her buttocks with her legs in front of her. She frequently bangs into things with her outstretched legs, and often accidentally knocks her braces against the legs of other children. Sorrel also has a wheel chair but now that she has braces, it is used less frequently.
Sorrel tires easily and needs to have an afternoon sleep. She needs assistance with toileting and dressing but is able to manage all other self-help tasks on her own.
Sorrel has spent quite a lot of time in hospital and has had limited contact with children her own age. Because of her condition, Sorrel’s parents say that they have tended to over-indulge Sorrel and as a result she can be quite demanding if she does not immediately get her own way. She finds it difficult to share and can be very bossy with other children.

i. List the additional information you may need to gather in relation to Sorrel’s development and needs.
Observations will need to be done over a length of time to determine where Sorrel is developmentally in her cognitive and fine motor areas.

ii. Describe what you would need to do in order to prepare for Sorrel’s inclusion in your program
- Ensure there is enough space for Sorrel to get around and that resources such as the sandpit are accessible
- Adapt resources such as the painting easel so that Sorrel can sit to paint etc.

iii. Explain how would you involve Sorrel’s parents in your preparation?
- Sorrels parents would be asked what Sorrel’s routine is like at home, how does she handle transitions etc.
- Sorrels parents would be asked to help set some goals for Sorrel

iv. Describe how you would prepare the other children for Sorrel’s arrival?
Be honest with the children explain that they will need to help Sorrel etc.

Am I on the right track? Any help would be greatly appreciated

List the additional information you may need to gather in relation to Sorrel’s development and needs.

I think this question refers to what else you can ask Sorrels parents to assist you in supporting her. For example:
- does her braces hurt? what to do is she complains that they are hurting?
- what can we do to assist her in learning to walk?
- do we need to remove the braces? if so when and how? etc.

For the rest of your responses you're off to a good start but I think you need to add more strategies to each question...

The following information may help:

Spina Bifida

Oh right, that makes more sense as she hasn't really started yet, so they wont be able to do observations on her yet.
Thankyou
