Scenario: Louise - Bringing A Dog Into The Centre

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how I could approach this question. Three year old Louise has a dog at home. She wants to bring the dog with her to child care, every day.She asks you whether that would be okay, and can the dog sit with her during story time. Now as it is unclear if this "you" person is the child's parent or the child care educator I am not sure how to go about answering this one..But I would say that bringing animls into an environment where there are children who may be frightened or perhaps a centre where there are children of different cultures who may not be familiar with animals would perhaps not be a good idea.?????

"You" will always be typically referred to as the Educator.

You are able to have animals "visit" in the centre but precautions obviously must be taken in doing so. The dog can first come and get introduced to the children. So, the children and the dog get use to each other. Then you may need to set up an area for the dog to be in since you can't have it pooping everywhere. Slowly the dog may be able to interact with the children as it gets use to the environment etc.

Hope this helps,
