hey there! i am stuck on this question in the assingnment, i have given my answers but i am not sure they are correct. I dont understand the question when it says address each of the signs and consider all those things, do i incorporate all those things in each response??

i feel silly because it is probably a really straight forward question??!!

1. List three (3) signs of stress or distress George may be experiencing upon arrival.
2. Discuss in detail strategies you will use to address each of these signs to help settle George when he arrives at the centre. Consider such things as
• interactions with George while the family is still present
• supporting Natalia with an unhurried separation from George
• response to George’s distress at separation
• how George’s expression of feelings and emotions are being encouraged and
• identification and response to George’s feelings being appropriate and respected
1. Signs of stress or distress
2. Strategies to address each of the signs of stress or distress

I. Hiding behind mum/ clinging onto mum
- Greet both George and mum appropriately when they enter the room- always acknowledging George
- Don’t hurry Natalia as this will make the separation hurried and distress both George and Natalia

II. Runs to the window when mum leaves
- Have activities that George enjoys out in the room prior to him arriving- helping to distract and keep his mind off mum leaving

III. Crying when mum leaves
- Talk to George in a soothing and calm manner, reassuring him that mum will be back to pick him up later, and always reassure him that what he is feeling is normal and it is ok to feel that way
- Ask George to explain how he is feeling and what you can do to help him

I'm not too sure of the scenario but from your responses it has to do with George having difficulty separating from his mum.
Hiding behind mum/ clinging onto mum

Get down to Georges level, greet him.
Tell him some of the activities that are available
Encourage mum and George to find an activity to start with

Runs to the window when mum leaves

Ask mum and George to wave goodbye to each other from the window
Provide George comfort acknowledging his feelings.
Explain what is happening and what's going to happen next.

Crying when mum leaves

Give George a cuddle and provide comfort
Tell George that you are going to look after him until his mum comes back
Tell George that mum will be back after afternoon snack to pick him up
Ask George if he would like to do a special drawing for mum
Read George a book in a quiet area until he settles and wants to join in

Hope this helps,
