At a recent spot check for the purpose of quality assurance the service was advised that it was not meeting the requirmants for the diversity of an inclusive program.consern was expressed that the service did not reflect the cultural diversity of the broader community and it particular did not reflect the rich abroginal heritage of the area.
The issue was raised by the team member,Nicky at a team meeting.it was suggested that the group brainstorm stratiges to be more inclusive.however several staff member become quite defensive and objected to the need for a culturally inclusive program.the objection raised included....
Currently only white,middle-class children attended the program
Parent might be object
There have never been any abroginal children enrolled in the service
The program currently provides a multicultural week once a year
Nicky was quite taken aback by the objection and decided to take some time to think over the objection.
