Read Jai’s Maintenance List and:
Identify the potential hazards and/or risks associated with each item on the list.
Rate each item in terms of potential for serious risk to health/safety according to priority for repair.
High Priority :1-2 days Medium Priority: next week Low Priority: next few weeks
1. The hand towel dispenser in the staff toilets has fallen off the wall and is on the floor.
Potential hazards - Hand towel dispenser could be a trip hazard
No infection control due to the proper washing hands procedure not correctly completed
Medium priority
2. The fan in the infant’s cot room in not working.
Potential hazard - No air ventilation, could be hot – will need to turn air con on or leave an outside door open
Could cause suffocation
Medium priority
3. The fly screen on the laundry door is ripped.
Potential hazard - If flyscreen continues to fall off, it could potentially become a slip hazard if staff do not watch their step
Bugs flying in and creating nest in the centre – this could allow the bugs to bite children
Low priority
Feedback from assessor: What other hazards? Consider the similarities of 1,2 and 3. What kind of health hazard does this present to the children? What kind of hazard is there from insects coming into the centre? You were on the right track with infection in 1
Any help is much appreciated!
