hi everyone,
Does anyone know where i could find information on this
I need information on the legislative requirements in relation to the positioning, location and lighting of exit signs. i live in queensland.

Hey Rayvn,

How ya doing? Well Im doing great...back to work and busy as ever :D !

With your question, I didn't know child care centres had exit signs....hehehehee.... ;) I've been in this industry a lonnnnnng time and I haven't really seen any at the centres. Most probably you will only find em in bigger centres.

Here is the info you need. I will also provide you with a link at the bottom to where I got the info from. You can check it out, if you want. The legislation requirements for Queensland falls under the Building Code of Australia. So this means that this legislation is for all exit signs in all buildings, including child care.

Lighting:

A level of illumination for safe evacuation in an emergency must be provided, to the degree necessary, appropriate to β€”
(a) the function or use of the building; and
(b) the floor area of the building; and
(c) the distance of travel to an exit.

Positioning:

To facilitate evacuation, suitable signs or other means of identification must, to the degree necessary β€”
(a) be provided to identify the location of exits; and
(b) guide occupants to exits; and
(c) be clearly visible to occupants; and
(d) operate in the event of a power failure of the main lighting system for sufficient time for occupants to safely evacuate.

Location:

Exits must be provided from a building to allow occupants to evacuate safely, with their
number, location and dimensions being appropriate toβ€”
(a) the travel distance; and
(b) the number, mobility and other characteristics of occupants; and
(c) the function or use of the building; and
(d) the height of the building; and
(e) whether the exit is from above or below ground level.

thank you so much, that is absolutely what i needed.
its lovely to be back at work isnt it, i had my first day back floating last week and it was very quiet with a lot of kids still on holidays.
whooooooie one assignment done.
Trying to get 5 done before i go away on holidays again.

Hi L.A, My centre has an exit sign! :lol:

I agree with what you said though...this is probably the only childcare centre I have seen that has an actual exit sign.. I wonder why that is... :roll:

Hi,
I have worked in 3 Childcare centres and all 3 have had emergency lights and exit signs on all door ways that lead out side.

It may depend on when the centre was built in regards to the centre having them. I thought all public buildings had to have emergency lights and exits signs.

Hi, I live in nsw and would like to know if anybody knows "what are the legislative requirements in relation to the positioning, location and lighting of exit signs in nsw'?
Is it the same as qld?
