Scenario 1
David's wife is in hospital but David runs his own small business so has to work so needs extra care for his two children but can't afford any more other than his normal two days per week, his children are two and four years old.
A space is available for the four year old but the two year old will put the service over numbers on Thursday and Friday.

a)How can you support David?

b)What regulation will help you support this family?

c)Who does the service need to contact

d)What financial support may be available to cover cost of care for the family?

Scenario 2
Ella children haven't at tented any child care in the past and Ella hasn't introduced a regular routine at home.
Ella four year old sons eats and sleeps spontaneously but will be coming into a group of 15 four year olds as he will need to adapt to fit into the group as staffing doesn't allow for individual programs in the preschool room.

a)How will you negotiate a care program for Ben

b)What limitations will be placed on Ben?

c)What alternatives/compromises could both you and Ella make?

d)How will you record the final decision so everyone is clear of how you will proceed?

Scenario 3
Steve has arrived at the centre anger and concern over a recent situation where Steve 14 month old daughter Meg was bitten in the arm.
Steve wants ti know why Meg is not safe at the Centre and is threatening to take Meg to another Centre in the area?

a)How will you respond to Steve?

d)what would you say to Steve about his idea to go to a "safer" service?


What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Scenario 1
look into applying for an extension of number during those thursday and friday

Scenario 2
Talk about the importance of a routine in eating and sleeping at a regular time.
also record it in Ben Portfolio so all staff and parents can see the final decision for Ben's care routine

Scenario 3
respond to Steve calmly listen to his concern.

Scenario 1:

Yes, you're on the right track.... Until then I think you can provide emergency care for those children until you get the approval from the government of changing the number of children on the license. Contact http://www.acecqa.gov.au/ for more information and you can check Centrelink for the family to receive financial support.

Scenario 2:
You could explain the routine to Ella and why there is a routine in the first place.You could also explain that the routine is part of school readiness.

Scenario 3:
Yes, talk to Steve about shadowing the biter to try and resolve this issue and staff are aware of the situation etc.
