hi all, im really stuck on two questions in my book. Iv looked at them for the past week and still cant get the answers. The questions are:

1. opportunities available for the family to provide feedback and ideas about the program and the ways they can become involved in the decision making process at the service. e.g policy development and review.

2. Explain the processes that occour when a family member brings a concern to you about their child.

thanks.

Hi Kimberley

In my centre we have to include parent input every week in our program. This can be having them complete a form detailing their child's interests or areas that they would like to see included in the program. I was working in a privately owned centre when I answered this question and they had no formal procedure for parental input in policies but they did welcome informal input and they did take comments seriously. My question only referred to my centre so if you have to answer this more generally you could try googling centre policies. I did this for other units and was surprised how many centres put their policies up on the internet.

As far as the second question goes this is probably covered in the Kearns text books. Try looking under children with additional needs. I think the marker is probably looking for you to talk about confidentiality, discussing the parent's concerns with your director, observing the child over time in a variety of situations and the procedures for bringing in outside assistance or having him assessed.

Hope that helps.
