CHCORG627B- Scenario: Abby - Being A Mentor
Posted: Sun Aug 30, 2015 9:53 pm
Scenario:
Abby is an educator with Cert 3. She has been working with school-age children for a few years and has recently commenced working at your service. You are asked to be her mentor, supporting her to achieve her goals regarding the knowledge and skills required for working with children under 5 years.
Abby has more experience working with children than you have. Although she has not studied her Diploma and has not worked with children under 5 years for over 10 years, she has two children of her own aged 7 and 9 years.
a) List five points of knowledge and skills that you think Abby may want to know more about.
b) For each of the five points, identify one way you would suggest that Abby could learn more about this area.
c) List the information you could share with Abby that would allow her to understand your personal experience and knowledge in relation to the knowledge and skills you have identified.
My answer:
I have worked with school age children, babies, toddlers and kinder children but still do not know how to answer these questions. Please have a look at my "effort" below and advise me. Thanks everyone :X
a) Knowledge and skills Abby may want to know:
- Activities to provide children under 5 years
- How to make meal times interesting for children
- How to maintain safety of children under 5 years
- How to set up the room
- How to make transition from home to day care easy for children (as children under 5 years old think transition from home to day care is terrible and easily get upset about this)
b) Identify one way you would suggest that Abby could learn more about this area
- Join me when I do programming for children
- Visit extension.org
- Visit http://www.acecqa.gov.au/national-quali ... ild-ratios for update information
- Visit http://aussiechildcarenetwork.com.au/ar ... room-setup, extension.org
- Join me when I help children's transition from home to day care
c) Share information, resources and materials I have with Abby.
Please help to correct me. Thanks everyone
