1. In a minimum of 2 pages to a maximum of 3 pages, you are to develop your own personal philosophy. Whilst you do not need to formally reference the document, you must include the sources of your influences, such as acknowledging a particular theorist. Your philosophy must provide clear statements about what you believe and how you intend to implement / support your beliefs. Your philosophy may be written in the first person, using "I".

Your philosophy must include the following -
- How children learn
- Your role as the educator
- Role of the community
- Your understanding of early childhood education
- Your commitment to further professional development
- Role of families

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
3. Becoming a Professional

1. I believe that each child is their own individual and that children will learn through play. The environment plays a major role for children within their learning, it enhances children’s interests and abilities to learn, physical needs, social needs, challenges and learning styles.

Vygotsky once proposed that children learn through interactions with their surrounding culture and I will follow Vygotsky’s knowledge to help support children’s learning cultural interactions.

According to Vygotsky's theory, children can do more with the help and guidance of an adult or other person more experienced person than they can do by themselves, the range of tasks that one cannot yet perform independently, but can accomplish with the help of a more competent individual. For example, a child might not be able to walk across a balance beam on her own, but she can do so while holding her mother's hand.
This is my influence as it encourages me as an educator to engage in children’s physical accomplishments and enables them to have faith and trust in someone to assist them in this ability.

As an educator I will provide the opportunities to children to explore, discover, grow, create and imagine.

I will value and discover each child’s individual strengths, interests, skills, abilities to extend their knowledge.

I will provide a safe, loving, respectful fun environment, where children will have the greatest opportunity to grow and develop.

I believe it is my role as an educator to go above and beyond safety, love and respect.
As an educator, I will strive to create an environment that is fulfilling, enriching and supporting of all possible learning and growing opportunities for children.

I believe that all children should be treated with equality, and their cultural diversity be embraced and acknowledged.

Families are encouraged to share their culture, language and home experiences with my service. I encourage families to participate in their child’s development and learning and share in decision making.

I aim to provide a diverse program that reflects both group and individual needs. My program not only covers the areas of language, cognitive, social/emotional, fine motor and gross motor development, but also provides for the holistic child.

I will provide positive encouragement and reinforcement which is a tool to direct and promote behaviours. Through positive encouragement and experiences i aim to build high self-esteem and self-worth.

I am committed as an educator to up keep my professional developmental skills, and to further my knowledge in children’s services by attending training development workshops which will increase my understanding and learning which can further my personal knowledge which can be carried on through my role as an educator within my service.

It is my aim to provide a loving, caring, nurturing environment that promotes each child's learning and development, self-esteem and individuality, whilst having a day that's lots of fun!

Hi Tia,

I just had a read through your philosophy and I think you've done a great job with it. I really like what you have written!

You clearly explain in your statements how you will support and encourage children and what's important to you.

I suggest you keep a record of this in your resume folder and since you're working in a centre, have it in your room so others and families can read it too.
