Assessment task 21 - Responding to legal or ethical issues
The following task requires you to identify three potential situations where work practices could be improved to meet workplace requirements. You will then need to develop appropriate responses to address each of the potential situations.
a) Identify and describe three potential work situations, one legal situation and two ethical situations
- At the end of the day, one of the 2 years olds is falling asleep during group time and the child becomes very distressed when woken up. This has been happening consistently over the last couple of weeks. The parents have requested that their child is not allowed to sleep during the day vecause when she does have a sleep, she stays awake late in the evening
b) Describe how these work situations do not meet the legal or ethical requirements of your job role
What the parents require of their child might clash with the legislation regulating nap that requires childcare centres to provide for each child's individual sleep and rest time
c) Describe how you would respond to the legal or ethical situations this can include the policy and/or procedure you would follow
I have the responsibility to listen and consider the parents need for their child. I as an educator at the same time will not be able to responds to childs right to sleep when the child wants to according to the centre Rest and Sleep policy.
d) Reflect on the steps you would take to improve the work practices in the situations you have described
- Discuss and think deeply about the parent's concern
- Respect the family's request
- What changes can we implement to support the family's concern
e)Describe how you would provide feedback and communicate these work practice improvements
- need help
f) Describe how you would communicate these improvements to colleagues and supervisors to enhance their understanding of their legal and ethical responsibilities
- need help
