Your Question?
Hi, I currently am working on CHCFC504A, I have to make a case study, a suitably related experience, a suitable response or interaction.
I'm really struggling with coming up with a suitably related experience, any help or hints would much be appreciated:
1. A child has expressed a feeling inappropriately and you would like to demonstrate or encourage a more socially appropriate reaction
2. A child is experiencing negative feelings and you wish to help the child release these feelings
3. You wish to provide an opportunity for children to show that they appreciate others feelings
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
I am in a mixed aged room. Names made up. My case studies that I've written are as follows:
1. A child has expressed a feeling inappropriately and you would like to demonstrate or encourage a more socially appropriate reaction:
Maria (4 years old) is constructing a building with the wooden blocks. Noah (2 years old) walks past and knocks Maria’s building over.
Maria screams at Noah “I hate you, you wrecked my building”. Maria gets up and walks away from the block area to an educator.
2. A child is experiencing negative feelings and you wish to help the child release these feelings:
Toni (3 years old) is balancing on the beam when she falls off, landing on her feet on the ground. Toni kicks the beam and says “stupid thing” and walks away. Toni sits in a chair with her arms crossed and refuses to talk to Molly who wants to play.
3. You wish to provide an opportunity for children to show that they appreciate others feelings:
Simon (4 years old) is running through the yard when he trips, Evelyn (educator) helps Simon up and checks him for injuries. Simon has no physical injuries but is quite upset. Evelyn offers Simon cuddles. While Simon and Evelyn are cuddling another child Bree (4 years old) comes over and joins in the hug. “Are you okay?” she asks. Simon does not respond. “Simon has fallen over and is sad, thank you for checking on him” Evelyn replies.
Please feel free to make any suggestions for my case studies if you think they require more information or do not answer the questions appropriately.
Description and Message:
As above it would be fantastic if you have any hints or suggestions for experiences, or know of any websites that might help me further research helping children to express their feelings through play experiences.
