Hello everyone!
I am VERY stuck on a Practical Placement Task. Just hoping anyone could provide me with some feedback or criticism before I have to hand my work in at the end of this month.
The task is relating to - Develop a policy review process
The following Assessment Task requires you to develop a policy review process. You will need to do the following; -Choose 2 policies from your centre. One policy which requires review, and one policy which requires development (new policy)
- Develop a policy review/development process in order to ensure ongoing relevance and currency of your policy and which maximizes input from clients and stakeholders
- Evaluate the policy review process
During this process, you will need to address the following:
-Identify the purpose/s of a policy review
-Identify how often a review will take place
-Identify the key stakeholders involved in the review process
-Identify possible outcomes of a policy review
-Identify the relevant industry guidelines and legislation that the policy would need to be reviewed against
-Describe at least three consultation techniques you will use to review the policy
-Identify who is immediately effected by any changes to processes as a result of this process
-Describe the process for documenting the review including issues raised and changes made
-Describe the process for announcing any policy changes and how you will format the new information in a way that will promote understanding with all stakeholders
This is my attempt at a policy review/development ; (seriously doubting myself - have been researching samples, templates and other relevant documents on how to appropriately review a policy and am still not confident with my answer)
Policy for review: Inclusion & Equity Policy
Goal/purpose of policy ; to ensure all adults and children at the service are treated equitably and with respect, regardless of their background, ethnicity, culture, language, beliefs, gender, age, socioeconomic status, level of ability, additional needs, family structure or lifestyle & to promote inclusive practices and ensure the successful participation of all children at the service
Policy for development: Environmental Sustainability Policy
Goal/purpose of policy ; to demonstrate the service’s commitment to the support of environmental sustainability in accordance with environmental legislation and principles and to assist stakeholders to take an active role in caring for the environment, and promoting and contributing to a sustainable future.
Policies should be reviewed regularly to accomodate changes in practice, legislation, standards and current trends. The purpose of a policy review is to ensure that it is up to date with legislative requirements and reflects best current practice.
Once a policy has been developed, the stakeholders decide on a review date (up to 2 years).
The key stakeholders involved in the development/review of a policy are families, educators, other staff belonging to the service and board members.
Possible outcomes of a policy review could be to reduce the potential of risk, meet legislative and governance responsibilities and achieve its organisational goals and to ensure clarity, consistency, transparency and accountability in decision making.
The relevant guidelines and legislation that these policies are reviewed against consist of; Education and Care Services National Law & Regulations, National Quality Standards, Victoria’s department of education and training, the service’s philosophy, Convention on the rights of the child, ECA code of ethics and documented information such as parent feedback/incident and accident forms/observations/staff feedback through meetings and performance reviews.
Consultation techniques used to review the policies; Staff/Board meetings after hours, surveys, focus groups & having a copy of the draft policy accessible to families and staff (reception), and asking for their input.
Thank you in advance for your help
