Suggest ways in which children can be supported with tasks as they begin to develop an understanding of their physical needs in the following situations. Think about what you can DO, SAY and PROVIDE in the environment.

Situation 0-2 yrs Suggested strategies to support a range of self-help skills

Assisting with packing away

Meal times

Toileting

Hygiene / hand washing


How will you setup Environments and encourage children to be independant in completing these tasks ?


What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Situation 0-2 yrs Suggested strategies to support a range of self-help skills

Assisting with packing away picking up toys off the floor, putting activities away in baskets

Meal times Hold your own milk bottle while drinking, Drinks from a cup, pick and feed yourself

Toileting pulling up and down their own pants, wiping themselves after going to toilet, flushing toilet,
Washing hands

Hygiene / hand washing Wash and dry your hands before meals, Use a tissue to blow the nose, Cover your mouth

How will you setup Environments and encourage children to be independant in completing these tasks ?

Add photos of children doing tasks independently (take photos of the children washing their hands, flushing the toilet etc. Add photos of toys on each basket to make it easier for children to know which toy goes where, use low shelves for children to access, role model, role play, offer sippy cups at meal times to be used... At this stage they don't need to know how to wipe themselves but you can encourage it by helping them.
