CHCECE003 - Preschooler Wearing Overcoat On A Sunny Day

with this unit I have been given a "Practice Task" and one of the questions is "What would you say to a preschooler who dresses in an overcoat to play outside on a warm sunny day because they don't want to get sunburnt.
Now I am thinking that if the child is not overly distressed by wearing the coat then just leave the child alone. OR should we ask the child to take their coat off and perhaps apply sunscreen therefore relieving her anxiety regarding the sunburn.?????

It's probably best if the preschooler removes it as they could get dehydrated and it's just far too hot and uncomfortable to play in it. You could suggest they apply sunscreen on their arms. face and legs, wear a wide brimmed hat and play in the shade.
Hope this helps,

Explain to the child or show the child that it is to hot to wear a over coat in summer maybe by showing them a picture of a sunny day with children dressed in shorts, dresses and t-shirts, the child will become dehydrated quicker as their body will sweat to much, the child may start to feel un well. Offer the child a better option such as a t-shirt. The child may want to take the over coat with them and place it somewhere allow them to take it with them, as it may be a comfort for them. Offer them sun screen and a hat and show that their friends and other educators are dressed in short sleeves, and that it is cooler and more appropriate to wear.
