a1) Children in your care need protection from the sun; discuss your role in the importance of this.
One must implement a sun protection and skin care policy. This includes encouraging the children to put sunscreen on, wear hats, protective clothing and eyewear. Limiting sun exposure is also important especially during hours of the day where the UV rays are stronger; these times are from 10am-4pm. Therefore the times must be considered when planning an activity that involves outdoor areas. One’s role is to ensure that the children are following the policy and that they understand its importance. One can briefly explain to the children why they need to put sunscreen on and tell them it’s for protection against the sun’s harmful UV rays. One can also show them how to put sunscreen on, can even make it fun by drawing on the skin using sunscreen. As a childcare worker ensuring that the above are followed is important not only for protection from the sun but also for skin and eye care.
a) In detail discuss the importance of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.
It is very important to maintain a clean and hygienic environment because it is for reducing the risk of cross infection between the children and adults in the centre and it also assist in helping the children develop hygiene habits that they will use throughout their lives.
