Kiran is four-and-a-half years old and will be going to school in six months’ time. He has cerebral palsy and has considerable mobility issues. He is often in a significant amount of pain.
A comprehensive individual family service plan (IFSP) was created for Kiran upon his entry into your service three years ago, and staff are in frequent contact with kiran’s family, doctor and occupational therapist. kiran has lots of friends and is very familiar with the routines and environment of the child care service.
While the other children of a similar age are speaking excitedly about going to school and obviously looking forward to it, you notice that kiran does not join in these conversations. Instead, he is quiet and withdrawn whenever the topic is mentioned.

my ans:
Explain how you would plan, implement and review strategies for supporting kiran in preparing for his transition to school. To help with your explanation make sure you address each of the following specific areas:
a) discussing your concerns with others to develop an understanding of kiran’s needs and using this information to inform your actions
I would –
Ensure that all staff members at the centre are familiar with the strengths and needs of kiran and that can be involved in supporting the child. This reduces dependence on any one staff member.
Have an Individualised Education Program (IEP) developed through joint meetings with staff, family and other specialists.
I will also work together with staff, family and other specialist to make sure that information is shared and provided to everyone.
I will make sure that staff understands that Every child with cerebral palsy has different abilities and needs so the plan for transition will vary according to the family’s goals as well as resources at the school and service setting.
Talk to the experts about strategies being used for kiran is working or not.
b)developing a plan for supporting kiran to prepare for his transition to school
I would encourage Parents to visit the schools
Also sharing information with other staff and school staff about kiran’s progress
Ensure that all the staff knows the kiran’s mode of communicating a need to go to the toilet. This may be by signs, sounds, words or pointing to a picture or symbol
Make necessary changes to equipment and plan how materials will be presented, so kiran can participate as much as possible in all areas of play and activities and communicate this changes with everyone.
Encourage other children to include the kiran in their play and talk.
Making the most of routines: by incorporating the preschool routine into programming, children with additional needs are provided with further opportunities to practice specific skills in a busy group situation
c) implementing strategies to support kiran in preparing for school
Strategies to support kiran in preparing for school
Encourage independence and participation in all aspects of routines including toileting, dressing and eating.
Provide opportunities to allow the kiran to participate as fully and independently as possible.
Try to establish regular routines in the day and for each activity he has to do in order to help motor planning.
Encourage kiran to ask for help if the instruction has not been understood.
Involve kiran in school visit.
Encourage/ask the family to talk about school with kiran for ex:
Who’s going to the same school with him?
What will happen there?
Encourage him to use two hands together in activities e.g. play, eating or dressing up.

can someone help me..?? m i on right track or missing something?

thanks
