Hi everyone, I turn 17 in a few days I really want this traineeship at a local childcare centre but I am scared my age will turn me down. Could I still be employed even though I am under 18 years of age?

Hi Mel,
I started my cert 3 traineeship at 17. I was working part time until I finished year 12 then moved into a full time position. The good news is YES! you can be employed under 18 years of age. In the National Regulations it states:
Educators who are under 18 to be supervised - The approved provider of a centre-based service must ensure that any educator at the service who is under 18 years of age:
(a) does not work alone at the service; and
(b) is adequately supervised at all times by an educator who has attained the age of 18 years.
So, go to the interview and see what happens! i got my fingers crossed for you!
Good Luck!
