Programming for only child.

Hi all!

Just wanted to post a quick question to see what you all had to say. I'm currently an educator at a centre in the toddlers room, a family has convinced me to leave to be their nanny. We'll be going through an FDC sort of group where you work in home and they can still claim the rebate, etc. My question is, for an 18mnth old, how to program for just one child in the home? Does anyone have any templates or have any creative ideas on how they kept things fresh and interesting, when its the same environment all of the time? Obviously we will go out a lot to parks, etc. but worried about the same resources getting old.

Also at our centre we have a "day book" where we put pictures and a little description of what we did that day, etc. I'm trying to think of a way to create the same thing at home. Obviously I could message her daily photos, but I want her to be able to see physical evidence of our days, and be able to look through it at her convenience. Instead of getting bothered at work by my photo messaging! They don't have a printer and I can't get to my home every day to print, as well as not wanting to use up all of my own resources. Any ideas or other thoughts would be amazing! If you've gone private and dealt one on one, or with only one family, etc and have any pieces of advice I would appreciate it! Any "what i wish i knew" thoughts are very welcome! Thank you all in advance! :)

Hi,
doing for one is no different than doing for a whole group except an awful lot less paperwork. You can go to the public library and borrow different resources, in FDC we have to supply all our own so it will be the same for you, or maybe the family will supply what you need talk to them about that side of things...will they cover costs for outings and supplies?. On this website are great daily templates and reflections templates you can add the photos onto them and write a little story then email it to the family at the end of the day and you can later print them and put them in a folder for the family to look back on. It takes a bit of getting used to when you are used to being around a lot of people but you are also so flexible as you are not actually stuck in the same place. Find out where there are free play groups, storytime at public libraries they also have baby rhyme time for little ones once you start looking you will find so much in your surrounding area. If you have a Bunnings close by they also have free children workshops, and yes I take all my fdc children even the babies and they join in.....they sit on my lap so i can help them.....it gets you out of the house and it doesn't cost anything. Also the fdc you are going through should hold play groups as well.
Have fun

Like Linsaa suggested, you could continue planning the day as you typically would for a group of children. You could even do group time with the child, incorporate your intentional teaching, the story you will be reading, songs you will sing, organise what art and craft you would like to do etc. You don't necessarily have to program everything but activities that you would like to incorporate would be good. In regards to documenting, using the templates on this site is good but you could also think about using Appsessment which is a documenting app we have created. The reason why I am suggesting this is because it's all digital. If you are going to be messaging the parent daily photos of the child you could do this using the App itself and link it to the documentation which you would write. Once you document the child's activity, add the photos, link it to the EYLF (if you would like) and publish it and the parent will receive an instant notification and they will get to see their child's learning in action on their own timeline which they can view whenever they wanted. Also, Appsessment is used in any device such as Androids, iPhones, Tablets, Laptops etc. If you want to save money on resources, printing photos etc. I really think Appsessment will benefit you and this family!

Let me know if you have any questions about the app or general happy to help with both!

I'm just giving you an alternative to your documenting that's all...
